In my model making course, we had to use the lathe to make an object. I ended up making 2 bowls. One out of white pine that I had glued up in layers and another out of a solid piece of dogwood. I left the bark on the dogwood one because I think it is a really neat feature that I don't see on a lot of bowls. It was much harder to make because it is a harder wood and it would catch on the tool. In the end I had to sand the bowl by hand for many hours. I plan to seal both of them and put a gloss finish on the dogwood one. I haven't decided what I'll do with the pine one.
